It was a nice experience to live without electricity, running water and internet connection at the reforestation project. You don´t miss those things. I loved living in nature, bathing in the river, and eating fruits and vegetables from the garden around you, which you also plant. I learned how to plant different kind of fruits, like bananas, which you do not usually plant in Germany, and how to live with the plants which grow around you. I often maintained the areas around the trees and plants too, so that weeds didn’t take over.
I think this experience is a good way to think about our normal life, which is full of all this commercial stuff, and our throwaway society. You can think of what you really need in life to live and be happy. I met some amazing people in the other volunteers and had a wonderful time whilst living amongst nature, with all this plants, animals, sun and rain.
